About Us
After more than a decade in academia, I moved to Malaysia and began my PhD at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) with one clear mission: to contribute meaningfully to both science and the country I now call home.
In searching for research gaps within tourism studies, I stumbled upon something surprising: dark tourism in Malaysia remains largely unexplored. Around the world, countries preserve and present their complex histories with pride—yet here, many of Malaysia’s stories are hidden, forgotten, or left untold. I wanted to understand why.
With the support of government agencies and tourism authorities, I set out to uncover these neglected narratives. Over the course of my research, I identified more than 250 dark tourism sites across the country. Some are unmarked, others overlooked, but all hold deep cultural and historical significance. Along the way, I became passionate about the topic—not just as a researcher, but as someone who believes these stories deserve to be seen and valued.
Mission
This site is my way of sharing those discoveries. Its mission is simple:
- To bring awareness to Malaysia’s dark tourism heritage.
- To encourage reflection, respect, and curiosity about the past.
- To connect travelers and Malaysians alike with the stories behind these sites.
